Today Apple released the much-hyped iPad. This is the overview video from the Apple website that displays all of its features and functionality. Here are some of my initial reactions.

  • I definitely want a future version of the iPad. When the iPhone first came out I knew that someday I would hopefully own one. This summer that became a reality when I was able to buy the iPhone 3G S. I will have to wait for a price reduction and I want some new features that are currently not available. The first generations of the iPhone were not equipped with the ability to record videos and I knew I wanted that on my phone.
  • I really don't care for the name. Not that I have a better solution, I just don't care for this one. Oh well. When I first heard iPod I wasn't too sure and now it is a common word I say and hear all of the time.
  • Just like my iPhone, I really want to see multitasking capability before I buy an iPad. Even though I am not the best at multitasking, I do like to listen to music while I surf the web and check e-mail. For me, this is a must-have before I would buy one.
  • There really should be an built-in camera. Our culture has rapidly embraced the photo and video world. Plus, I can picture using your iPad to video chat with family and friends.
  • I love the 3G support that will come with the models they ship starting in April. Having Wi-Fi and 3G on my iPhone has been so nice and I don't know how I could go back now. I am anxious to see how much these plans will cost since I am already paying $30 a month for my iPhone.
  • Because I am frequently on my couch when I am using my MacBook at home, I can definitely see myself using an iPad while watching TV and just hanging out. However, I'm sure that if I would use it to do much typing or work with the iWork apps, I would need to purchase the attachable keyboard.
  • I would also want to purchase a case to protect the screen and outside of the iPad. Call me crazy but I really like to protect my tech gear so I can use them as long as possible.
I have already seen several comments about how the iPad doesn't live up to all of the rumors and hype surrounding its release. One person on Twitter did comment that many felt the same way with the release of the iPod. Nevertheless, the computing world is constantly changing and Apple is still leading the way.
