Yesterday we got to attend a birthday party for a family in our church.  The party was held at a dodgeball place and we all had a great time.  The kids played a few rounds with a few parents helping the younger ones.  Then we started playing kids versus parents and it was a lot of fun. Micah even got in on the action!

The last time the girls went to a dodgeball birthday party I didn't get to attend and Theresa had to take care of Micah the entire time.  Even though Emily and Callie "played," they ended up just standing there and would never move away from the wall.  Today it took a little encouragement, but they eventually got into the action and Callie was even the last one standing on her team.  Now she wants to have her birthday party there, but I think she really just likes the idea of everyone bringing her presents and then getting to open them.  We will have to see what she wants when we get closer to time and Chuck E. Cheese is her other option.

Enjoying The Pool On A Lazy Friday Night

This past Friday night Theresa's Sunday school class had a swim party to celebrate the end of summer.  I got to tag along so I could help with the girls and Micah in the pool.  We all had a great time and I am amazed at how much all three of my kids love being in the water.  Emily has so much more confidence now that her swim lessons are finished for this summer.  Callie and Micah also love splashing around and hated to go home.  When the temperature outside is so hot, getting to swim as a family on a summer night is a true luxury.

Since the new Winnie The Pooh movie came out the day I left for World Changers, I promised to take the girls as soon as I got back.  So, for our latest daddy-daughter date, Emily, Callie, and I headed to the movies to watch Pooh and his friends on the big screen.  Both of the girls really enjoyed the movie and it was just the right lenght for Callie.  She was ready to go right as the movie was about to end.  Of course, she could have just been ready to go and get a refill on our popcorn!

I always love my time with my girls, and this was very special for me after being gone for ten days to Roanoke, VA.  Because so many movies are not appropriate for the girls, it was really nice to be able to take the girls to Winnie The Pooh without having to worry about the content.

      Our Family Of Nine

It's official!  We now have nine members of our family.  Okay, so the last four additions are only goldfish, but nine does sound pretty impressive.

For quite some time now, Emily has been saving her money for a new pet.  She has wanted a dog for months even though she is usually scared of them.  Even though Theresa and I tried to steer her away from getting a dog by telling her it would cost more than just a few dollars and it would be a big responsibility, she continued to save her money.  After her birthday in May, she had saved more than a few dollars and kept on asking for a dog.  As a compromise, we settled on getting fish with some of the money she had saved along with some of Callie's money.  We felt this would be a better solution for her than trying to find the right kind of dog she would enjoy.  We bought our tank yesterday and went back today and purchased four goldfish.  The girls have already enjoyed watching them swim around and they have tons of questions about everything fish related.  I think this is going to be a really good first pet for Emily and will allow her to learn some responsibility.  Plus, who doesn't enjoy gazing into a fish tank?

We had another fun-filled day of VBS!  Even though Callie had a burst of energy right at the end of the day (see video), she was tired and a little cranky most of the day.  Despite that, both of the girls had a good time and even got to take their pictures with a Statue of Liberty cutout.

New Playground For The Girls: A Labor Of Love

For Christmas, the girls (and eventually Micah) received a new playground to replace one my parents got for them a few years ago. With all of our winter snow and cold weather, we had to wait until recently to assemble their gift since it would not have been fair to put it all together only to make the girls wait weeks to actually be able to enjoy it.

The first three pictures are of Emily and Callie helping take down the old swing set the day before dad and I started working on getting the new playground up. As you can also see, the two boxes for the playground came with a ton of boards and almost thirty steps to follow. Needless to say, this was going to take awhile!

Due to my busy schedule and finding time when dad was available, our first Saturday to work on the playground just happened to be on one of our cold Spring days. We spent close to six or seven hours working on the new playground. Even though the directions said it would take two people eight to ten hours, we were nowhere close to being done after day one. So, a couple of weeks later, dad came back over on a Saturday and we were able to finish the job this time. I know that we definitely exceeded the eight to ten hour mark, but we got the job done.

The girls have already really enjoyed the new playground and are looking forward to getting to play on it all summer long. I still have to attach the stakes and put sand under the fort, but for now they are free to play and have fun. This labor of love was well worth it and I really enjoyed spending time with my dad working on this project.
