Today when I went to pick up Emily from school, she had this sticker stuck to her shirt. It was a reminder about a school fundraiser tonight at a local restaurant.
Think I could get with doing this for my youth when I need to communicate a message to their parents? I can just picture them all lining up to leave and me putting their reminder sticker on them!
Ouch! I definitely got my toes stepped on multiple times in this little parable. This may be a little extreme, but it is very sad how close to home much of this really is for most churches today. As a full-time youth pastor for over seven years now I have learned new ways to view guests of the church, but I sure have a long way to go. The more heartbreaking fact is not that most churches operate somewhat close to this, but that most churches will never change in hopes of seeing more people come to Christ.

I have been using the free Bible app from LifeChurch since I first got my iPhone. YouVersion is a great resource not only because it is free, but also because of how much is has to offer. Now, they have added over twenty different reading plans that will sync with your phone and from the web. Tonight I challenged my youth group to check this out before 2010 begins so they can add more Bible reading to their lives. I am still checking out the different plans and will choose one tomorrow so I can start reading on January 1. Gotta love free resources that promote spiritual growth!
Tomorrow night is our last youth night for 2009. I am very excited to start a New Year with my students. I am still praying about the direction God has for us in 2010. A friend of mine picked out a theme verse and moto for his church this next year to guide everything they do. I would like to be able to share something like that during our first meeting of 2010. I will update later on my findings and the direction I feel God is leading us.
